Hiroshima!

First off, thanks to Mr. Potratz for the great note (see yesterday’s comments)! I passed along the note to the students. After a full day at the war memorial, the atomic dome, and the war museum, there's definitely a lot to think about. It all made for an emotional day. The entire afternoon was certainly somber. The suggestion to attend the lantern ceremony at Green Lake on Aug. 6th is something that everyone was into. We will have to organize it when we get back.

Following the day at the memorial sites, we spent an hour or so at a beautiful Japanese Garden built in 1610! It wasn't until we were leaving that we learned that the entire grounds were destroyed by the blast. Later the garden served as a survivor's camp for victims--as Mr. Potratz referred, Hiroshima forces one to make connections. The bomb is hard to escape. The city is new: neon, busy streets, shops, and restaurants...we are off to explore more.

Pictures to come...as soon as we figure out how to upload them on these newfangled Japanese computers.
