Last Day of Freedom
Since we last had a chance to post, things have been busy. Currently, we are back in Kyoto--a city everyone is begining to know very well. Yesterday, we traveled by bullet train from Hiroshima to the Hijemi Castle. The castle itself is huge, beautiful and looming. Lots of wood. Lots of extremely steep stairs. Touring the various towers and grounds made for a great (and tiring) afternoon. Following that adventure, we traveled back to Kyoto, rested up, grabbed some dinner, and spent the rest of the night exploring the city. A few brave souls (Quinn, Lindsey, Jessica, Madison, and myself) had enough guts to try our hand at Japanese karaoke...it was painful at best. Everyone was amazed to discover Quinn's talent for Mariah Carey. As soon I find a way to get the pictures uploaded, I will...they are pretty ridiculous (the picture to the right of the castle is just a stock photo I found on the web...I'm sure some of us took essentially the same photo though).
The other news to report is that today marks our last day of travel. In a few hours, we are off on chartered bus to Nara for an afternoon of siteseeing followed by our official welcome ceremony by our host families and the school. I will admit that most of us are a bit nervous and anxious to see how the whole experience will unfold. Nine days with a host family (especially when you don't really speak the language) is definitely daunting. In the end though, I am sure we will all do fine.
Wish us luck...

Konnichiwa Jess,
Sounds like you're having a great trip. I hope someone recorded the Japanese Karaoke, otherwise you'll all have to recreate it for us at Seatac. We miss you. Love, Mom
Breanna, I don't think my last note went thru. Your not here to walk me thru this stuff. Shadow misses you I had to make him a nest on your bed. (He got another bunny). I'm glad its such a great time. You scored a 4 on your AP Biology test and a 3 on US History. Dad and Alaina send their love. Love Mom
